    The school is a warm, welcoming school with a small population of students and dedicated staff. Over 40 percent of students come from homes where English is not their first language. Shirley Street is an Integrated International Languages Extended Day school. Students choose to study Portuguese, Chinese or Spanish. At Shirley Street P.S. students and staff practice Eco-friendly habits in the execution of their daily activities. They take on the everyday responsibilities of maintaining a clean school and reducing the energy use to a minimum.  Staff and students separate waste, paper, plastic, tin and compost in an effort to reduce the overall waste output as a school.
